FIVE STAR DINING WITH FAMOUS CHEFS
Opened at Caesars Palace on May 17, 2006, Restaurant Guy Savoy quickly earned a spot on several top "best of" lists, including Bon Appetit, Gayot, Esquire, Robb Report's "America's Finest Dining," and most recently Travel + Leisure's April 2007 feature on the "Best New Restaurants in the World." It was the only Las Vegas restaurant to be nominated for the annual Best New Restaurant award by the distinguished James Beard Foundation in New York, and one of only two Las Vegas restaurants nominated for a James Beard award this year.
Several years ago it was not uncommon to go to your favorite city around the world to find the finest dinning places to feast in but now days it seems you can have it all in Las Vegas.
Almost monthly you will find a very well known chef setting up his brand of cooking in one of the entertainment cities well known resorts. There are so many to name so with this issue we will start with a few who knew the Las Vegas market was a sure winner when they came here.
Guy Savoy Amazing Wine Wall
The highly-acclaimed Michael Mina Restaurant in the Bellagio Hotel on The Strip is a must-visit. The food is superb, and the wine list offers about 800 or more labels, many from the smaller boutique wineries in California, Oregon, France and Spain. You might try a viognier, or the 2003 Domaine Schlumberger Pinot Gris, with Mina’s Butter Poached Maine Lobster with sweet potato crepe and Tai coconut cream.
If you’re in the mood for beef, try Michael Mina’s certified Angus Beef Filet Mignon, served with sweet onion potato puree and red wine sauce, a dish made for a big, bold zinfandel or cabernet sauvignon. Wine pro Ivo Angelov says pinot noir would be an excellent choice, considering the sauce’s flavors.
Angelov also tells us Michael Mina has an excellent selection of Spanish red and white wines – think tempranillo, or albarino, two varietals that keep on growing in popularity. You’ll love the ambiance, and you’ll never forget the cuisine, at Michael Mina Restaurant. Hats off to Executive Chef Anthony Amoroso and his team. www.michaelmina.com.
